TEACHING AND LEARNING TO SUCCEED

Academic excellence is prized at BILA, by students and staff alike.

Competition and Community
Students compete fiercely for a place on the honor roll listings and line up to examine the lists when they're published outside our main office each marking period. Top-scoring students earn the opportunity to apply for membership in our Beta Iota Lambda Alpha chapter of the National Honor Society, and we celebrate those selected as a community.

Looking for Challenge Beyond the Exams
For many students (and in many schools), the Regents Exams are the measure of academic success. Not at BILA. The vast majority of our students pass all of their exams at the end of their 10th grade year.

Students then use the next two years to prepare for college by taking AP Courses (including Language, Literature, Government, and World History) and challenging themselves with academic electives including Biomedical Engineering, Civic Engagement, Introduction to Engineering and Design, Forensics, Destination Imagination, The History of Resistance, STEM for Dance, American Politics, ScriptEd, Podcasting, and more.

About 30% of our upperclassmen also pursue college credit or career experience while still in high school, participating early college programs at LIU or Brooklyn College, or beginning career training with Co-Op Tech programs or internships with arts organizations or even the ACLU.
