Defining Senior Activities
Senior activities include senior trip, senior prom, and commencement. Other school trips and activities may also be included, at administrator discretion.
Behavioral Expectations
All seniors are required to commit to the following behavioral code. Seniors may participate in senior activities only if they adhere to the criteria below:
- I will do my best to positively contribute to the Brooklyn Institute for Liberal Arts community.
- I will make good decisions in the classroom, on campus and at school activities.
- I will quietly inform an adult if I see or hear anything that could possibly put anyone in danger.
- I understand that bullying will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary action.
- I understand that bullying and cyber-bullying will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary action.
- I will be at school and in class on time with my materials and ready to learn every day.
- I understand that I must have a pass if I am out of class at any time for any reason.
- I understand I must adhere to the school's cell phone and wearable electronics policy. Cell phones, wearable electronics, and other electronic devices will be collected upon entry of the school building at scanning and will be returned at the end of the school day.
- I will follow the school uniform policy at all times.
- I understand that if my GPA is less than 2.0 and my conduct grades are unsatisfactory during any marking period, I will not be eligible to participate in any senior activities and extracurriculars until the following marking period.
- I understand that at the Brooklyn Institute for Liberal Arts, there is ZERO TOLERANCE for students who cause major disruptions or engage in fighting at school or school activities. Any student who causes a major disruption or fights could receive a 3-5 day in-school suspension or up to 180-day suspension at a suspension site.
- I will adhere to the school's lateness policy because I understand that being late or truant affects my conduct grade. I will serve detention as a result of being late to school.
- I understand that during my senior year, any suspension from 1-4 days could result in my losing the privilege to participate in senior activities such as the senior trip, senior prom, and commencement ceremony.
- I understand that any 5-day suspension, a cumulative GPA from 9th to 12th grade of less than 2.0 and less than a satisfactory grade on their conduct in the senior year will result in not being eligible to participate in any senior activities including senior trip, senior prom, and commencement ceremony.
- On any school trip, I am to act in the same responsible manner in which I am expected to conduct myself in school.
Students who do not meet the GPA criteria established above may be allowed to participate in senior activities at the discretion of administrators, and only if that child has no behavior or suspension issues.
